Momentum turned the new tab into a calm dashboard: a beautiful photo, a greeting, a focus for the day and a to-do list. Many people love it. Others find that what they actually do on a new tab is open a site, and in Momentum the sites live in a Links widget off to the side. If that sounds like you, a Momentum alternative with your bookmarks front and center may be the better fit.

Why people look for a Momentum alternative

Bookmarks aren’t the focus

Momentum's free version includes website shortcuts in a Links widget. It was designed around inspiration and focus, not around reaching the twenty sites you open every day.

The price of Plus

As of October 2026, Momentum Plus costs $39.95 a year. Plus adds things like the Site Blocker, a Pomodoro timer, Soundscapes, custom photos, calendar, AI features and task-app integrations.

What Speed Dial 2 does differently

Speed Dial 2 with a photo background, clock, tasks, calendar, weather and bookmark tiles — A calm background, clock, tasks and notes next to your bookmarks. Calendar and weather are part of Pro.

Your sites, big and visible. Visual tiles with logos or page screenshots, organized into groups like Work, Home and Reading.
A calm page, if you want one. Choose a background, light or dark theme, and how many columns you see. Turn on the Compact Layout for a minimal header.
The productivity basics, free. A clock with greeting, tasks and notes sit next to your bookmarks.
Focus Mode, free. Block social media, news, video and other categories, or any site you add. Scheduling by time and day comes with Pro.
Find anything by typing. Press / and type "saved this week" or "most visited in Work".
On your phone too. With Pro, the iOS and Android app shows the same bookmarks.

What it costs

Speed Dial 2 is free, including bookmarks, groups, search, Focus Mode and the clock, tasks and notes widgets. Speed Dial 2 Pro is $12 a year and adds sync across your computers, automatic daily backups, the mobile app, weather, calendar and countdown widgets, 100+ fonts, more than 66 extra backgrounds and your own uploads.

What Momentum does that Speed Dial 2 doesn't

Momentum brings a new photo, quote and mantra every day, and with Plus it connects to task apps and adds AI notes and soundscapes. Speed Dial 2 keeps the background you choose and has no AI chat. If daily inspiration is why you open a new tab, stay with Momentum. If you open it to get somewhere, Speed Dial 2 is built for that.

Bring your bookmarks with you

Momentum keeps only a few links, so moving takes a minute.

Install Speed Dial 2. The first-run wizard suggests your most-visited sites and lets you pick a background.
Add the rest with +, or paste a list of addresses with Add multiple bookmarks.
Turn on the clock, tasks and notes in Preferences → Widgets, and set up Focus Mode.
