FVD Speed Dial made visual dials popular, and plenty of people still like the idea: your favorite sites as big tiles, sorted into groups, on every new tab. What sends people looking for an FVD Speed Dial alternative is usually everything that has grown around the dials. Speed Dial 2 keeps the part that works and leaves the rest out.

Why people look for an FVD Speed Dial alternative

Tiles you didn't add

FVD Speed Dial's Chrome Web Store listing says the extension may show monetized dials, marked with an Ad badge, that contain affiliate codes, and a search bar provided by Microsoft Bing or Yahoo. Both are disclosed, the listing says you can turn them off, and some people don't mind them. If you'd rather have a page that only ever shows the sites you chose, that is reason enough to switch.

It isn't available for Firefox

FVD Speed Dial is offered for Chrome and Edge, but not for Firefox. In November 2021 Mozilla removed the Firefox add-on; its add-ons team said the developer had been intercepting search queries sent to a third-party search provider, which its policies don't allow. That decision applied to the Firefox version at the time. If you use Firefox, or switch between Firefox and Chrome, you need a different speed dial.

What Speed Dial 2 does differently

Speed Dial 2 with bookmark groups for Home, Work, Dev, Reading and Travel
Speed Dial 2 with bookmarks in groups, tasks, today’s calendar and the weather. Calendar and weather are part of Pro.
  • Only your bookmarks. No sponsored dials and no ads on the new tab page. The page starts with the sites you pick in the first-run wizard and grows from there.
  • Your search engine stays yours. Speed Dial 2 replaces the new tab page and nothing else. It doesn't change your default search engine.
  • Every major browser. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Brave, with the same groups and bookmarks on each.
  • Groups that fit how you work. Work, Home, Reading, a project. Drag tiles between groups, reorder them, or sort by most visited.
  • Find anything by typing. Press / and type what you remember, like "saved this week" or "most visited in Work".
  • Widgets and focus. A clock, tasks and notes next to your bookmarks, and Focus Mode to block distracting sites.

What it costs

Speed Dial 2 is free: bookmarks, groups, search, the clock, tasks and notes widgets, and Focus Mode. Speed Dial 2 Pro is $12 a year and adds sync across all your computers, automatic daily backups, the iOS and Android app, weather and calendar widgets, password-protected groups and more than 66 extra backgrounds. Sync is built into Speed Dial 2 itself, so there is no second extension to install.

FVD Speed Dial is free to install and pays for itself with sponsored dials and a sponsored search bar. Its premium plan is sold by EverHelper: as of October 2026, EverHelper Pro costs $44.99 a year or $15 a month, and a lifetime plan is $129 (EverHelper plans). EverHelper lists unlimited dials, server backups and EverSync under those paid plans.

Bringing your FVD dials along

Bring your bookmarks with you

  1. In FVD Speed Dial, open Options and use Export to copy or save your data.
  2. Paste it into the FVD Speed Dial converter and download the converted file.
  3. Install Speed Dial 2, open Preferences → System, click Import and pick the file.

Your FVD groups show up as Speed Dial 2 groups. If the export doesn't convert cleanly, send it to support and we'll help you move.
