Jump: One Shortcut to Anything

TL;DR Jump opens on any page when you press your shortcut or click the Speed Dial 2 icon in the toolbar. Type to open a bookmark, switch to a tab, reopen a closed tab or save the page you're on. Set your shortcut once in Preferences › Jump.

Your Speed Dial is great when you open a new tab. Jump brings it to every page you visit. Press one shortcut and a search box appears on top of whatever you're reading. From there you can reach your bookmarks, your open tabs, your browser's bookmarks and handy actions without leaving the keyboard.

Step 1: Set your keyboard shortcut

You can always open Jump by clicking the Speed Dial 2 icon in your browser toolbar. It's much faster with a keyboard shortcut, though, and setting one takes about ten seconds. Browsers only allow extensions to set shortcuts on the browser's own settings page, so Speed Dial 2 takes you there.

Chrome and Edge

  1. 1
Open Speed Dial 2 Preferences (the menu icon in the top-right corner) and choose Jump.
  2. 2
    Click Open shortcuts page.
  3. 3
Find Speed Dial 2, click the pencil next to "Activate the extension" and press the keys you want to use. We recommend Ctrl+Shift+S (⌘+Shift+S on Mac).

When you return to Preferences, the box turns into "Shortcut is active" and shows your keys. You can also go to the shortcuts page directly at chrome://extensions/shortcuts (Chrome) or edge://extensions/shortcuts (Edge).

Firefox

In Preferences › Jump, click Set shortcut and press the key combination you want. It has to include Ctrl or Alt (⌘ or ⌃ on Mac) plus a letter, number or function key.

Pro Tip: Don't see the Speed Dial 2 icon in your toolbar? Click the puzzle-piece icon and pin Speed Dial 2. Then Jump is always one click away, even without a shortcut.

Step 2: Open Jump on any page

Press your shortcut on any website. Before you type anything, Jump shows:

  • Save this page… adds the page you're on to Speed Dial 2.
  • Ways to browse: groups, open tabs, browser bookmarks, recently closed tabs and actions (more on these below).
  • Suggested actions when they're useful, such as unmuting the current tab or turning Focus Mode off.
  • Most visited: the Speed Dial 2 bookmarks you open most often.

Type to find anything

Start typing and Jump searches everything at once. Results are sorted into sections:

  • Results: your Speed Dial 2 bookmarks. This is the same smart search as on your new tab page, so filters and plain-English searches like group:work or last 30 days work here too.
  • Groups: matching Speed Dial 2 groups. Select one to see its bookmarks.
  • Open tabs: switch to a tab you already have open instead of opening a duplicate.
  • Actions: quick commands like New Google Doc or Duplicate tab.

Press Enter to open the highlighted result in the current tab, or Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on Mac) to open it in a new tab. If nothing matches, Jump offers to search the web for what you typed.

Save the page you're on

This is the quickest way to add a bookmark to Speed Dial 2:

  1. 1
Open Jump. Save this page… is already highlighted, so just press Enter.
  2. 2
Choose a group. Type a few letters to filter the list, or pick Save to new group… to create one on the spot.
  3. 3
Press Enter. You'll see "Bookmark saved." and the page is added with its title and a screenshot.

Note: Pages that belong to the browser itself, such as settings pages, the extensions page or the new tab page, can't be saved. On those pages Jump simply hides the "Save this page…" option.

Browse with a letter and Tab

Jump has focused modes for specific tasks. Type the letter and press Tab to enter one, or select it from the list:

g + Tab Browse bookmarks by group: open a Speed Dial 2 group and search inside it
t + Tab Search open tabs: switch to a tab, or act on the current one
b + Tab Search browser bookmarks: browse and search your browser's own bookmarks
r + Tab Recently closed tabs: reopen a tab you closed by mistake
a + Tab Browse actions: tab tricks, browser pages and app shortcuts

The active mode appears as a blue label in the search box. Press Backspace on an empty search box to go back a step.

Switch between open tabs

Have 30 tabs open and can't find the one you need? Type t + Tab, then a few letters of the page title or website, and press Enter to jump straight to it, even in another window. Below your tabs you'll find actions for the current tab, such as Duplicate tab, Pin tab and Mute tab.

Search your browser bookmarks

Jump can also search the bookmarks saved in your browser, so you don't need to dig through the bookmarks bar. Type b + Tab, open folders with Enter or Tab, and go up a level with Backspace. Typing searches the open folder and everything inside it.

Reopen recently closed tabs

Closed a tab you still needed? Type r + Tab to see the tabs you closed most recently, newest first. Pick one and press Enter to bring it back.

Recently closed tabs in Jump

Note: The first time you use browser bookmarks or recently closed tabs, your browser asks for a one-time permission. Speed Dial 2 only asks when you use these features, and you can use the rest of Jump without them.

Run quick actions

Type a + Tab to browse every action, or just type an action's name from the main screen.

  • Tab: Duplicate tab, Pin or unpin tab, Mute or unmute tab, Close other tabs, Close tabs to the right, Switch to playing tab, Close playing tabs. Pinned tabs are never closed.
  • Speed Dial 2: Open Speed Dial 2, Speed Dial 2 preferences, Turn Focus Mode on or off, Help & support.
  • Browser (Chrome and Edge): History, Bookmark manager, Downloads, Extensions, Browser settings.
  • App shortcuts: start something new in one step, such as a new Google Doc, Sheet, Slides deck, calendar event or Meet call, a new email, a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file, a Notion page, a Figma or FigJam file, a Canva design, a GitHub repository, a Linear issue, an Asana task, a Miro board and more.

Pro Tip: You don't need the full name. Open Jump, type cal and press Enter to start a new calendar event. Type doc to find your Google Docs bookmark or create a new document.

Keyboard shortcuts in Jump

↑ ↓ Move through the list (Home / End jump to the first or last item)
Enter Open, switch to or run the highlighted item
Ctrl+Enter Open a bookmark in a new tab (⌘+Enter on Mac)
Tab Enter the highlighted mode, group or folder
Backspace Go back a step (when the search box is empty)
Esc Clear the search, go back, then close Jump

Choose what Jump can do

Prefer a simpler Jump? In Preferences › Jump, under "What Jump can do", switch off anything you don't use: open tabs, browser bookmarks, recently closed tabs, tab and browser actions, or app shortcuts. Everything is on by default, and Jump is free for everyone.
